Bottle Feeding, by Christi
Yonavick (Ridgewood Shilohs) |
I have determined that washing bottles is a pain in
the butt! I have gone to the liner drop in system. Works
great---collapsible liners for less air & gas for the pups. The
liners are NOT expensive and is a huge timesaver---also they have
generic ones that fit the Playtex bottles and are very cheap!!!
What you will need:
 |
Playtex (drop-in system) with NaturalLatch latex
nipple---it is a #1 nurser with slow flow nipple.
It actually all comes together in a kit--bottle, nipple and includes
5 drop-in liners.
Instructions:
|
 |
Drop in a liner---mix up the feeding per instructions
on the can of "Just Born" or whatever milk replacer you have chosen
to use --fill bottle and let them eat as much as they want to.
They can be a bit subborn at first getting that nipple in their
mouths and some times you have to physically open their mouth to get
the nipple in and started, but if they are hungry they will take it.
Keep them in a semi upright position as they would be nursing on
Mom---they are so cute as their little front legs go a crazy trying
to nead (in this case the air or your leg if you have them leaning
that way).
Those little bottles that you can buy at the pet store for kittens
and puppies don't really work. Nipples and bottle are just to small.
If you look at the size of Mom's nipples it is hard to believe that
newborns get those huge things in their mouths---but they do -- thus
the bigger nipples of human bottles do work.
The natural latch has a very soft natural feel to it. I also tried
the orthodontic nipples, but they didn't like them as much as the
NaturalLatch latex nipple.
Hope this information assists you if you ever need to bottle feed.
It can be very frustrating and tiring trying to get the puppies to
take a bottle---they can be very stubborn at first.
*****Also slipping it in their mouths as they are rutting around
Momma can help to get them started also.
Might want to get this system and keep on hand in your puppy kits
for "in case". I keep tubes to tube feed also--though I have never
had to tube. I would prefer to use the bottle as long as they have a
sucking reflex---if they don't then I would tube them instead.
