The ShilohZone open database
has been a dream of mine ever since I purchased my first Shiloh Shepherd,
Kiera. Kiera has severe hip dysplasia and a spooky temperament
but she has been a tremendous learning opportunity. She underwent a
bi-lateral Triple Pelvic Osteotomy at 9 months and her quality of life definitely improved.
Unfortunately upon recheck at 6 years of age it was discovered that Kiera's
hips are rapidly deteriorating, and her quality of life is beginning to
suffer. This online database is dedicated to Kiera
(and all the other dogs suffering from health and temperament disorders) in
the hopes that someday we can avoid such problems by working together. As is
stated so eloquently on the White German Shepherd Genetics Project site,
sharing data is the exception not the norm amongst canine breeders. Thanks
to projects like the W-GSD Genetics Project and other breeds that are
starting to open up their databases, the future for all dogs is looking much
brighter!
This site in no way seeks to present nor infer that all Shiloh Shepherd
breeders or owners are participating in this database -- they are not. We are
very grateful to those ShilohZone members and members of the public who so
generously give of their data to help others. We especially thank our owners
who are not breeders who go the extra mile by health and temperament testing
their family companions so that our breeders can benefit from the data and
improve the gene pool. Breaking through barriers that hamper data sharing
will be a long-term project, and so we celebrate our successes and feel
regret for lost or missing data.

Our guidelines for the ShilohZone database are simple: |
 |
1. Online Entry Form
You may only submit information on a dog that
you own or bred. If you bred a dog, but the owner is a member of
the ShilohZone then it is up to that individual to enter their dog's data. You do not need to be a member of the ShilohZone,
and there is no registry requirement -- this open database is open to all
Shiloh Shepherd owners. You can also use this form to
Update
information for a dog that you already have listed in the Online
Database.
 |
(Please Note: The ShilohZone Webmasters will be
periodically checking the OFA Database to update the ShilohZone Online
Database on dogs already submitted ... Please check to see if your dog's
health information has been updated before submitting an update form) |
|
 |
2. If you are a member of the ShilohZone discussion forum and you
want your data added to the ShilohZone Open Database, all you have to do
is send a message to the
Webmasters or the
ShilohZone Moderator giving
your permission to use your data. |
 |
3.
Second Party Data: If you know someone who owns a Shiloh and
wants the information listed in the database but he or she does not have
Internet access, you may get permission in writing to submit the data
and provide a copy of the permission (via email) to the
SZ-WC
Webmasters
along with the data to be entered through the online form (there is a
block to indicate written permission has been obtained). Entries of this
type will not be made until permission has been received. |
|
| |
 |
4.
Pictures (optional):
We are going to try and use pictures with database entries. You can
submit a picture along with your Shiloh's data when you fill the Online Entry Form or via email through the
SZ-WC
Webmasters. Please ensure the
registered name and call name of the dog accompany the picture. |
 |
5.
The SZ-WC Webmasters will review all data submissions
and whenever
possible, verify information. Database integrity is critical to the
success of this effort and data validation is key to ensuring integrity.
When deemed necessary, copies of verifying documents will be requested.
|
 |
6.
To minimize errors, before a record is added to the database
for the first time, it
will be sent to the submitter for final approval. |
 |
7.
For statistical purposes,
information and/or pictures submitted according to the criteria listed
above becomes the permanent property of the ShilohZone Open Database.
However, if at any time you want your Shiloh's information to be removed
from public viewing simply fill out the
Data Removal Form. |
